Well, we will if YOU can HELP us!!! In case you weren't informed, the El Mocambo is being evicted from its historic site by a new landlord who wants to turn BOTH floors into a dance studio. Our defense movement has gained astoundingly HUGE support (petitions, e:mails, faxes, newspapers, radio, TV, etc) and we also have three downtown politicians (MPP Rosario Marchese, Toronto Aldermen Jack Layton and Olivia Chow) who have said they are willing to become involved. HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO!!!!!!!! Call our new landlord who bought the building Sept. 16 and make a polite appeal to him regarding the situation. Let him know that evicting the El Mocambo club will hurt a lot of people in Toronto and around the world. Tell him he should go see all the posters and letters displayed on the main floor wall at the El Mocambo. Most importantly, tell him he could be an INTERNATIONAL HERO if he changed his plan -- and that there are all kinds of people who will assist him to find a good location for his dance studio.
